What is EMDR
EMDR is a method of therapy that stimulates the brains ability to heal mental health issues. In other words, symptoms such as anxiety, anger and depression are helped. In addition, self-esteem and relational issues can change for the better. EMDR has endoresements by some of the worlds leading mental health organizations.
How EMDR It Works
This approach uses bi-lateral stimulation (BLS) to access brain regions associated with negative past experiences. Furthermore, alternating eye movements and tapping are two ways in which BLS can activate these brain regions. During BLS, a client returns to a memory that had been previously connected to the presenting issue. From there, the brain is freed to process information much in the same way as when dreaming. This process helps alleviate the triggers of anxiety, depression and trauma. Therefore, this type of therapy also helps with the way we react in relationships and triggering events.
Additional Information
Also, I have been trained with additional Somatic and Attachment theory components of therapy. The Somatic & Attachment Focused EMDR model creates a holistic form of the therapy, addressing how past attachment traumas (and others) create maladaptive symptoms in the mind and body. This approach also allows for other styles of therapy to coexist during the first two phases of the process. You can also familiarize yourself with some of them, such as Internal Family Systems and Brainspotting. If you have any questions about Somatic & Attachment Focused EMDR, you can contact me below or book an appointment.
I also encourage you to watch the testimonial video at the bottom of the page.
